THE BEST 10-DAY THAILAND ITINERARY:  Best of Thailand in 10 days trip

Thailand 10-day trip itinerary: How to plan an awesome 10-day trip to Thailand

First 2 days of your 10 days in Thailand you will be exploring Bangkok.

There are two international airports in Bangkok: Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport (the new Bangkok airport) and Don Muang Airport (the old Bangkok airport). Most likely you will fly to Bangkok’s main international airport Suvarnabhumi (BKK – Suvarnabhumi).

In each case, it’s easy to get to the city center and it’s not expensive. A taxi ride from Bangkok’s airport to Bangkok’s center costs about 450 Bahts (15 USD).

Click here to book a shuttle transfer from Suvarnabhumi Airport to your hotel.

PRO tip: Stay connected with your family and friends while traveling Thailand and pick up at the Suvarnabhumi Airport or Don Muang Airport Unlimited 4G Portable Pocket Wi-Fi Rental

Where to stay in Bangkok:

The main districts of Bangkok are Rattanakosin Island (Bangkok Old City), Khaosan Road area, Riverside, Chinatown, Sukhumvit, Siam, Pratunam, Silom, and Chatuchak

The best areas to stay in Bangkok to be near Bangkok’s main points of interest are Rattanakosin Island (Bangkok Old City), Riverside, and the Khaosan Road area.

Bangkok Old City, or the Royal District, is the historic core of Bangkok centered around the Grand Palace and main Bangkok attractions. Click here to get the best rates for your stay in Rattanakosin Island (Bangkok Old City).

The most beautiful Bangkok district is arguably Riverside. If you are opting for luxury travel in Thailand and seeking a luxury stay in Bangkok, you should check out hotels at Bangkok’s Riverside. After 2 days in the sensational Thia capital and on the 3rd day of your vacation in Thailand take a day trip from Bangkok to Ayutthaya Historical Park.

Wat Phra Sri Sanphet in Ayutthaya

You will love Ayutthaya if you love learning about the history and cultures of the countries you are visiting on your travels.
The ancient city of Ayutthaya was once the capital of the powerful Kingdom of Siam. The awe-inspiring Ayutthaya was burned by the Burmese in the 18th century. Today magnificent Ayutthaya temples stand as evidence of the mighty kingdom.

If you are into history and culture, I highly recommend a day trip from Bangkok to Ayutthaya.

Getting from Bangkok to Khao Sok: The distance between Bangkok and Khao Sok NP is about 455 mi (730 km). I recommend flying from Bangkok to Surat Thani Airport, as it is the fastest way to reach it.

Surat Thani Airport is the nearest airport to Khao Sok.
A flight lasts about an hour and 15 min and the flights are run daily by Thai Lion Air, Air Asia, Thai Smile, and Nok Air.

From Surat Thani Airport to Khao Sok, you need to take a minivan service. Minivan service from Surat Thani Airport to Khao Sok National Park runs regularly several times a day. This journey from Bangkok to Khao Sok takes about 4 and a half hours in total.

You could also fly to Phuket Airport and from Phuket go to Khao Sok.
Or you can opt for a 12-hour overnight train from Bangkok’s central train station Hua Lamphong to Surat Thani’s Phun Phin town and from there head to Khao Sok. You can also take a 10-hour overnight bus from Bangkok to Surat Thani if you are spending more than 10 days in Thailand.

Khao Sok National Park is a place of extraordinary natural beauty and biodiversity covering an area of 740 km2.
It’s home to many wild animals like gibbons, tigers, elephants, and many rare bird species. The mix of green rainforest, limestone karsts, and the bright emerald Cheow Larn Lake make this park one of the most beautiful places in Thailand.
Cheow Larn Lake within the park stretches over 165 km2 area and there are some fabulous floating lodges and luxury tents on the lake you can stay in. Check out Panvaree The Greenery and 500 Rai Floating Resort.

If you are a nature lover like me, you will most definitely fall in love with Khao Sok National Park. Khao Sok National Park is one of my favorite places in Thailand.
Please make yourself a favor and visit Khao Sok National Park on your 10-day Thailand trip! Click here to get the best rates for your stay in Khao Sok

What to do in Khao Sok:

Cruise Chiew Larn Lake on a long tail boat to discover wild animals in their natural habitat, listen to the monkeys’ callings and birds’ singings, kayak or swim in Chiew Larn Lake’s stunning turquoise water, admire wonderful Khao Sam Kler limestone mountain, take a jungle trek to Nam Ta Lu cave to see the impressive limestone formations, bath elephants and experience bamboo rafting in the jungle

On the 6th day head to Ao Nang in Krabi Province.

Day 6-7: AO NANG & KRABI ISLANDS HOPPING

Getting from Khao Sok to Ao Nang: You can arrange a transfer to Ao Nang with your stay in Khao Sok. A taxi ride from Khao Sok to Ao Nang is about 2.800 Bahts. There is also a minivan service going several times a day from Khao Sok to the Krabi coast.

Krabi Province is less touristy and more preserved than Phuket, while Ao Nang Bay is one of the most beautiful bays in Thailand with some truly great sites to relax as they are still unspoiled by heavy tourism.

Ao Nang is a small resort town on the Andaman coast less touristy than Krabi Town. It offers all types of accommodation that suit all budgets.

Ao Nang is 20 min from Krabi Town, 15 min from peaceful and cozy Klong Muang Beach, and 2 min from Noppharat Thara Beach
Railay’s beaches (Tonsai, Railay East, Railay West, and Phra Nang) and several small and intimate islands are easily reachable in a 30-minute water taxi ride from Ao Nang. Thus, this U-shaped town between the cliffs and the sea is a great base for exploring the area.

What to do in Ao Nang:

Tour the world-famous Railay Beach, Phranang Beach, and Phranag Cave filled with phallic carvings honoring the fertility goddess (visit the white sand beaches of Poda Island, explore the underwater life of Koh Sii Island – one of the best diving spots in the Ao Nang area), go for a zip line adventure over the rainforest canopy and feed and bathe rescued elephants at ethically-run Ao Nang Elephant Sanctuary.
Click here to get the best rates for your stay in Ao Nang.

On the 8th day take a ferry and head from Ao Nang to Koh Phi Phi Islands. The ferry goes from Nopparat Thara Pier in Ao Nang to Tonsai Pier in Koh Phi Phi, and the ride lasts about an hour and a half.

In this Thailand 10-day itinerary, I am suggesting NOT taking a day tour to Koh Phi Phi islands as I want you to escape the daily crowds coming to Koh Phi Phi from Phuket and Krabi for an afternoon visit.
One of the worst things you can do in Thailand is to visit Koh Phi Phi islands on a day trip with hordes of tourists.
I want you to experience this paradise island away from day-trippers. In fact, at that time when day-trippers from Phuket and Krabi come to Koh Phi Phi, you will be exploring aqua blue waters, lush mountains, and the magical underwater of Koh Phi Phi Islands. Take this Ferry Transfer Krabi- Koh Phi Phi.

Day 8-9: KOH PHI PHI ISLANDS

Koh Phi Phi Islands consist of two small islands: Koh Phi Phi Don and Koh Phi Phi Leh.

Koh Phi Phi Don is the main island where all accommodations are.
Koh Phi Phi Leh is an uninhabited national park. Famous Maya Bay and Maya Beach where Leonardo DiCaprio’s movie “The Beach” was filmed are on Koh Phi Phi Leh.

Although Koh Phi Phi Don is reputed for all-night beach parties, there are areas where you can enjoy the island in serenity and away from the parties. The area around the main Tonsai Pier in Koh Phi Phi Don is overdeveloped, but if you go further from the main pier in the direction of Viking Beach and Long Beach you can find peaceful and isolated huts and villas.
Recommended stay Phi Phi Island Village Beach Resort and Phi Phi The Beach Resort.

Remember, Koh Phi Phi Don is not all about the party!

What to do in Koh Phi Phi:

Take a short hike to Phi Phi Viewpoint to admire the views of this paradise island, enjoy the beaches on Koh Phi Phi Don (Viking Beach, Long Beach, Loh Moo Dee Beach..), rent a kayak, and explore the crystal clear turquoise sea, take a scuba diving tour and swim with sea turtles, see the coral gardens, take a Koh Phi Phi island hopping tour to visit Monkey Beach, Shark Point, and Runtee BayBamboo Island, Mosquito Island, the turquoise lagoon of Phi Leh, famous Viking Cave, and see Maya Bay.

Maya Beach reopened for tourists in 2022 after being closed for four years. So, enjoy the most famous beach in the world!

At 10.30 pm you can take a ferry from Koh Phi Phi’s Ton Sai pier and in an hour you will reach Krabi’s Klong pier. From there, a minivan service regularly runs to Krabi International Airport. The ride from Krabi pier to Krabi Airport takes about an hour max.

A flight from Krabi Airport to Bangkok Airport takes an hour and a half and a one-way ticket averages 2.500 Thai Bahts (83 USD). Daily flights are run by Air Asia, Bangkok Airways, Thai Airways, Thai Lion Air, and Nok Air.

Please, just keep in mind that there are two airports in Bangkok: Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport and Don Muang Airport.

Air Asia, Thai Lion Air, and Nok Air fly from Krabi International Airport to Bangkok’s Don Muang Airport, while Bangkok Airways and Thai Airways fly to Suvarnabhumi Airport. The distance between Don Muang Airport and Suvarnabhumi Airport is 45 km, but they are well-connected by shuttle buses. Again, please take care of which airport you are flying to off Thailand!

Hope you liked this 10-day Thailand itinerary! I wish you the very best 10 days in Thailand!

We just spent three days in Bangkok and loved it. Your shot of the reclining buddha is really impressive. I found that one really hard to get. Our big take away was that we need to go back and explore the country. I really want to head north, although you sure made the Phi Phi islands sound appealing.

Thanks, Rhonda!

I love northern Thailand too. Landscapes of Mae Hong Son Province, Chiang Mai Province, and Chiang Rai Province are magnificent.

I have tailored this 10 day Thailand itinerary focusing on the south of Thailand as I believe first-time visitors to Thailand should enjoy some of the first-class Thai beaches. And amazing Khao Sok National Park which is a must-see in Thailand is in the south too.

But, yes, I love northern Thailand too! I am looking forward to going back.

Wow, thanks so much for the thorough introduction. So many people love Thailand and insist it's a place everyone should visit, but the hype has intimidated me a bit. I didn't even know where to start in terms of researching all there is to do and see. This is perfect!
